Hello Neighbors!
Salcha’s Neighborly Organization (SNO) has been working hard for our
neighborhood.
Many of you have taken advantage of SNO’s Lending Library and
Recreational
Room. Weekly, many teens are witnessed competing upon the many video
gaming
systems provided. Many have borrowed books and movies from the library.
Some
have used the computers and the internet connection SNO offers. Most
have been
seen in the paddleboat.
After two years of effort, SNO has recently provided our Fairbanks North
Star
Borough Transportation Department with a first draft of a proposal to
connect
Salcha with the rest of our Borough community. The proposal is based
upon the
notion of volunteer drivers. If any neighbor who travels to North Pole
or
Fairbanks every day wishes to volunteer to drive a shuttle then Salcha
could
know a form of public transit quickly. Please, consider the opportunity
to
travel for free while helping your neighbors. Remember, it’s the youth
and the
elderly who suffer the most without the option of public transit.
SNO is also looking for new board members and new directions. Salcha’s
Neighborly Organizations was organized to help provide a ‘safety net’ of
public
services. The hundreds of Salchans who have taken advantage of SNO
demonstrate
the need for Salcha to have a safe haven for families and youth.
SNO’s creator and current executive director and president, Melissa
Wills-
Markgraf, has recently given notice that their family will be moving.
Her
position will need to be filled by another caring soul; the non-profit
will
need to develop another home; and the Bookmobile will need to discover a
new
sponsor.
Join us for our 2nd Anniversary on June 19th from 2-6pm for a community
potluck. Good neighbors, good food and good memories.
Enjoy the beautiful summer.
Peace,
Melissa Wills-Markgraf
